Do you think that being a student is expensive?
My name is Darragh and I think it is. I’m wanting to take this opportunity to become the next financing executive for Camosun College and help be the change. I bring:
· Strong leadership and excellent communication and am very personable
· Business school and work experience
· A fresh perspective
· The conviction that it’s challenging to be a full-time student that has to earn for a living
The less we have to pay to be students, the more we can put back in to our own pockets. My name is Darragh and that’s what I want to do for you.
Matthew, MARTIN Student Life Collective
Re-Elect MARTIN for Finance Executive on April 6th, 7th, or 8th.
I've been with the student's society for three semesters now. This last year I have been on the Education Council, and I’m looking for something a little more pro-active. I’m in school right now collecting credits for a degree in midwifery or nursing, so the women’s gig is up my alley. I also really like putting on events, and if you vote for me, guaranteed there will be a lot more going on around the centre. I was the women’s director for a semester last year, and with that experience, I know I can do a great job this coming year. I’m also really into partnering with other groups and organizations as well as helping others with their projects. As women’s director I will be a great support and leader. And I'll keep the centre clean, likely even do the dishes…
--> In a nutshell: vote for me and we'll have lots of fun this coming year.
As the current Camosun College Student Society Women’s Director, I have worked with the other members of the Student Life Collective (SLC) to impliment many positive changes. As well as organizing and coordinating many diverse events for students on both campuses. Through the tireless work and dedication of the Womens Collective, Women’s Centre staff, and the help of many volunteers, this year the Women’s Centres at both Lansdown and Interurban have been used more than ever!
This year, the SLC has made a point of being out around campus talking to students and ensuring that your voices are heard. One awesome student suggestion that the CCSS was able to implement this year was the purchase of couches, in partnership with the college, that you will see around campus this spring. We have also expanded our communication with students through a new website and various Facebook groups.
It has been a pleasure serving as your Women’s Director this year, and if re-elected I will continue to advocate for Women’s issues on and off campus and continue to make your voices heard! Myself, and the Student Life Collective are dedicated to student issues and wish to continue to fight on your behalf, run the CCSS responsibly and sustainably, and work to make your next year here the best one yet.
Vote Lauren Blakey and the Student Life Collective!

Having been involved in the Queer activism community (by working with Outspeak at AIDS Vancouver Island and with SD61’s GSA board), I have come to the conclusion that Pride should be about celebrating diversity and awareness. Whether you are gay, straight, queer, transgendered, two-spirited, etc., Pride should be a place where you are able to be yourself and voice your opinions on how you want to be represented. Pride needs to be more open to the diverse student population at Camosun College. If elected I will work with the community, the Student Society and the student population to make sure this happens.
Why should you elect me Pride Director?
Well to be honest I’m nothing fancy, just an ordinary student who enjoys sports, the outdoors and putting off homework…I’m your easy-going stereotypical straight guy. Of course, by typical I mean happened to have been born female and spent the first 18 years of my life living as such. Technicalities aside, other random facts about me include I’m a huge Steve Nash and Ivan Coyote fan, I’m studying Environmental Tech., and I share the philosophy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles believe everyone is entitled to respect; they strive to make the streets of New York a safe space for all.
Substitute New York with the both campuses and you have my agenda.
Did you know there is a “Pride Lounge” in the Richmond House? Probably not, because it’s the size of a walk-in closet and pun aside; it is aptly nick-named, wait for it...the Closet. Sure, designating a space safe for queers was a huge step a decade ago, but it’s 2010! A safe space for us shouldn’t be confined to a dank room in the Richmond House. It should cover every inch of each campus.
How do we achieve this?
By subtly incorporating our awesome queerness into on and off-campus events with our hetero comrades. Yes, the Pride Lounge is an important resource… but let’s extend its boundaries to create two campuses where a queer can be safe, respected and proud everywhere.

Sustainability is all about thinking forward. This year has been a productive year as Lansdowne Director, and an inventive year as a board member. The air is cleaner after movement with the Quit To Win Program, which has been a great success, and I am also involved with the Saanich manager of transportation to discuss the Richmond crosswalk proposal. I have also recently been in talks with the administrative staff of the college to discuss sustainability and the CSEA's "Taste The Difference" campaign.
I am also a member of the Student Life Collective.
Richard:
Hi, my name is Richard. I’m a second year environmental studies student from UVic. I believe Camosun has a great potential to surpass UVic’s environmental movement if we all act together. I’m also an activist and rapidly involved in many local environmental movements such as protecting local forests, environment restoration at streams and rivers.
What I want to do are:- Re-enforce the energy policy for the computer labs and classrooms.- Diversify the recycle program in both campuses.- Start a student based community garden.- Cut down on current paper usage in the college (which is 11 million sheets/yr)- Protect the Gary Oak ecosystem used by Camosun college. My name is Richard and I would like to see change in Camosun’s carbon footprint.
International Director: Looking for equity, Fairness, and unity, qualities of a true Canadian
Dear student: as a present International Director of the CCSS, I have stand up for you in different ways to make your life easier and less stressful. I have proposed a campaign to promote a bursary for International students with an average of 4.0. For this I have started to open communication with the Christian community and the local MP to collect founds to support this cause. I have also started a campaign to reduce international tuition, which has been proposed to the board and is undergoing right now, but for this project and so many more, I will need your voted and voice, so that we can all keep contributing to the better change for our students and fellow international brothers.
Let’s make difference and show international students what Canadians are all about.
How could Camosun College become a second home for students? To my fellow international students, my name is Edward and I would like to make Camosun College a more interactive place for you. As being an international student for two years, I know the challenges that you will face when making the change, I have learnt to make Victoria my second home. One thing I believe is important is the integration of international students with Canadian’s. I am committed to plan, to explore and to create opportunities for this to happen. My name is Edward, let’s make Camosun College everyone’s second home.
